After running away from the field in the final round at Augusta, Scottie Scheffler is a massive
favorite to win his second straight major in 2024. But others will be chasing the number one
golfer in the world in a tournament that hasn’t been kind to the betting favorite. The average
closing odds for the PGA Championship winner has been +6600 for the last 4 years and +5700
over the last 8 winners.
Scottie Scheffler +350
There is no better golfer on the planet than Scottie Scheffler. It doesn’t matter what the course
condition is, who’s in the field, Scheffler just continues to win. He’s won three of his last four
starts, including the Masters and finished second in his other start. And if you go back further,
of his nine starts in 2024, Scheffler has finished in the top-6, seven times, and in the top-10,
eight times. He’s in top level form and continues to get better hence why he is the runaway
favorite.
Rory McIlroy +1200
The last time the PGA Championship was held at Valhalla Golf Club, Rory McIlroy won it as a
+600 favorite. The four-time major champion has been amazingly consistent at the majors in
recent years. Since 2019, McIlroy has played in 20 majors, and has finished in the top-10
twelve times including seven of the last nine events. He knows this course fairly well and could
be in the final few pairings going into Sunday.
LONGSHOTS
Collin Morikawa +2800
Colin Morikawa is coming off a third place finish at the Masters and has moved into 13th in the
world rankings. Morikawa has two majors, his first one coming at the 2020 PGA Championship.
He’s been very consistent at the majors with eight top-10s over his last 15 major starts. Just like
the Masters, Morikawa should be in a position on Sunday to make a run at the Wanamaker
Trophy.
Tiger Woods +8000
Tiger Woods has been given an exemption for this tournament and had his worst professional
performance of his career finishing 16-over par at the Masters. But he made the cut for a record
24th consecutive time and is aiming to play at the PGA Championship. Tiger won at
Valhalla back in 2000 and is a four-time winner of this event. While he’s not the same golfer we
saw 20, 10, or even 5 years ago, Woods says he can still win. Not many will question the GOAT
when he says something like that.
