With the NBA Finals wrapping up and the Boston Celtics crowned as NBA champions, the
attention now turns to next season. While we may be a year away from next year’s Finals, it's
never too early to start looking ahead at which teams have the best shot to win in 2025. Things
will likely change through the offseason with player movement, coaches being fired and hired
but it’s worth a look, especially finding some value.
Boston Celtics (+300)
They won their 18th title and are the early favorites to repeat next year. The Celtics had the
highest offensive rating and second-highest defensive rating this past season. Boston has
made the Eastern Conference Final in four of the last five seasons, and the NBA Finals in two of
the last three, and should be a force once again. Jayson Tatum is eligible for a supermax
extension and other key players, Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue
Holiday are all back next season. The Celtics should still be one of the best in 2024-25.
Denver Nuggets (+750)
The Nuggets won the title in 2023 and were favored to return to the Finals this past season but
were upset by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round. But this squad still remains
one of the most dangerous teams with arguably the best player in the world over the last three
seasons. Nikola Jokic won his third MVP award since 2021 and showed his dominance once
again. Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr. and Aaron Gordon will be back. Denver should be in
the mix in the West once again.
Oklahoma Thunder (+950)
OKC were the surprise team in 2024 as the Thunder surpassed all expectations and finished
first in the Western Conference. Oklahoma City saw the emergence of superstars Shai
Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren, who are quickly becoming one of the better 1-2
punches in the league. And with an endless supply of draft picks, it’s a matter of time before the
Thunder take the next step, a trip to the NBA Finals.
Minnesota Timberwolves (+1200)
Not many expected the T-Wolves to get to the Western Conference Final but they did and
almost advanced to their first NBA Finals. Despite losing to Dallas, Minnesota has a deep team
led by superstar Anthony Edwards, who'll be just 23-years old next season. If management can
add a few more pieces in the offseason, a return to at least the Conference Final isn’t as
far-fetched as you may think. And if Edwards continues to blossom, the Timberwolves could be
on the cusp of their first championship in franchise history.
New York Knicks (+1500)
The New York Knicks appeared to make a run in the playoffs before injuries cost them from
advancing past the second round. Still, New York has one of the deepest rotations in the
league, with Jalen Brunson becoming a legitimate star. If they make a few additions in the
offseason, an NBA title could be coming to the Big Apple, as early as 2025.
